The lake at Gougane Barra is known as' Lough Irce' and is an acid mountain lake. This presents a true test for the dedicated fly angler, yielding wild native brown trout up to three quarters of a pound plus. Casual Anglers wishing to use spinners or worms can fish from the shore.

Boats and fishing information will be available to you when you stay with us .The fishing of the lake is managed by Gougane Barra Angling Club which was set up in the early nineties. The aim of the Angling Club is to promote fishing, and organise competitions annually which will help people to enjoy this natural environment. Daily permits are available at the Gift Shop for non residents and the season is open from March 17th. to October 12th.
Gougane Barra Hotel is the ideal base for anglers who want some variety in their fishing. Coarse fishing can be had in Lough Allua (Ballingeary/Inchigeelagh) just 7km away, with Pike, Perch, and Bream to name but a few. The Cork /Kerry region is rich in game, coarse and sea angling with many of its fisheries world famous, including Lough Currane near Waterville, the lakes of Killarney, our local rivers and the amazing peninsular coastline......
